21-22 Federal Way Public Schools AmeriCorps Tutor

FWPS AmeriCorps members support student scholars of Federal Way Public Schools by serving within AVID elective classrooms, Core subject classes, and after-school programming. AVID, our primary focus, is designed to help historically underrepresented students gain access to college and acquire college readiness skills. Serving in our program will allow you an inside look into the field of education and explore career possibilities. All FWPS AmeriCorps members receive training and development to reinforce best practices in the field of education. Members receive support and feedback in an inclusive environment designed to foster the development of leadership skills. This service experience can serve as a sustainable entry way into the field of education and act as a springboard for any career specializing in youth services. This is a 40 hour per week, 10.5 month commitment. All team members receive a monthly stipend of $1945.20, benefits (*as eligible), and receive an Education Award ($6,345.00) upon successful completion of the service term. Interviews will be conducted within the same time frame as "accepting applications". If you have any questions, please contact Tim Johnson at tijohnso@fwps.org.

Member Duties : FWPS AmeriCorps members make a difference! Members will engage in direct-service to students as they are assigned to a middle school or high school site and will provide academic coaching, tutoring, and mentorship throughout the course of the service term. Members will facilitate small Socratic academic study groups (AVID tutorials), and help support the AVID Elective teacher with activities that are designed to help students develop college readiness skills. Along with supporting the AVID elective, members will support Core-Subject classrooms (Math, Science, History, English), and host an after-school homework club. Members will recruit community volunteers and will track and submit student data. All service members receive a thorough Orientation as well as on-going training and support.
