Overview

This position is based at our Chartway Arena. Chartway Arena, located on the campus of Old Dominion University is a 9,000 seat multi-purpose arena. The venue is the home to Old Dominion University basketball and the best live entertainment in the Hampton Roads region. Chartway Arena consistently ranks among the top venues in the world annually and hosts a variety of concerts, family shows, sporting events, conventions and community events. Responsibilities
  • Responsible for maintenance, operations and repairs at Chartway Arena including HVAC, electrical/lighting systems), mechanical and plumbing equipment, refrigeration equipment systems, cooling towers, boilers, water pumps and building control system
  • Participate in the delivery of events; coordinate arrangements with event and operations departments, contractors and clients; monitor and/or direct the work of contractors on building projects
  • Oversees post-game clean up at S.B. Ballard Stadium
  • Manage facility gameday staff at S.B. Ballard Stadium
  • Participate in work planning for facility maintenance and operations; identify and resolve problems; monitor workflow; review and evaluate work projects, methods and procedures
  • Monitor expenditures for equipment, materials, and supplies; oversee supplies and materials for maintenance programs within budget guidelines; receive and maintain supplies
  • Ensure compliance with hazardous materials communication program, material safety data sheets and required records and permits; maintain knowledge of changes in pertinent Federal, State and Local regulations. Ensure a safe work environment at all times
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required


Qualifications
  • Minimum four (3) years experience in building maintenance; experience in plumbing, electrical, HVAC building repair and carpentry work preferred
  • Experience in a convention center, sports & entertainment or hospitality industry strongly preferred
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; must possess a valid State driver's license and a good driving record. Must be certified to operate a forklift; specialized training/experience in the repair and maintenance of building HVAC and related systems preferred
  • Certifications required: Electrical License; Refrigeration unlimited - ammonia systems (06 Refrigeration License preferred). EPA CFC Universal preferred
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs and climb ladders required; must be able to be fitted for respirator equipment; must have experience with power and hand tools
  • Familiarity with OSHA requirements
  • Required to work independently and under minimal supervision
  • Must be available to work varies shifts as necessary including nights, weekends and holidays
