AR Public Policy Panel: Organizer II
Since 1963, the Arkansas Public Policy Panel (the Panel) has worked to open up social, education and economic opportunity for all. We help community people organize, to grow as leaders and to influence policies and change at the local level. We focus on the following South AR low-income communities: Marvell, Monticello, Star City, Gould, Dumas, Magnolia, Strong, Huttig, Prescott, and Waldo. We are exploring other opportunities and hope to expand and provide intensive organizing support to other communities. This project will continue our efforts to build infrastructure, leadership and programs that address disparities impacting low-income communities across a range of issues. We provide intensive organizing assistance to community members who historically have the highest poverty and greatest barriers to civic participation.. We work to make sure that low-income grassroots community leaders are engaged and at the table with institutional leaders. We provide information, training and assistance to help them work well together. When engaged and working together to strengthen their communities, solutions are better and more sustainable. AmeriCorps volunteers are instrumental in our efforts to create long-term change in communities. . They provide vital support to community leaders and gain valuable transferrable skills such as community organizing, strategic planning, research, event planning, how to run meetings, and improve their writing and speaking skills.
