AR Public Policy Panel: Develop Sustainable Infrastructure
Since 1963, the Arkansas Public Policy Panel (the Panel) has worked to open up social, education and economic opportunity for all. We help community people organize, to grow as leaders and to influence policies and change at the local level. We focus on the following South AR low-income communities: Marvell, Monticello, Star City, Gould, Dumas, Magnolia, Strong, Huttig, Prescott, and Waldo. We are exploring other opportunities and hope to expand and provide intensive organizing support to other communities. We provide intensive organizing assistance to community members who historically have the highest poverty and greatest barriers to civic participation. Americorps volunteers are instrumental in our efforts to create long-term change in these communities. They provide vital support to community leaders and gain valuable skills in the process. This project will continue our efforts to build infrastructure, leadership and programs that address disparities impacting low-income communities across a range of issues. Building the fundraising capacity of the Panel will increase our internal capacity and allow us to continue supporting the work of low income community leaders to address poverty and associated issues.
